Great Questions to Ask Your Child This Week

  • What is your favorite thing to do at recess?
  • What is the name of a friend who sits at your table?
  • What special did you enjoy this week?

What Will We Be Learning Next Week?

Language Arts

We will spend the week getting to know our language arts classroom.  We will read and discuss lots of great books about school and do some beginning writing.  We will also begin reviewing kindergarten sight words from last year. The beginning of the year assessment window will open on Monday and I will begin my one-on-one m-class assessments with each learner.  I complete individual m-class literacy assessments three times a year and it's a great measure in how children build and break apart words and their basic understanding of phonetics.  Results will come home, but not for quite some time.  Each assessment is individual and it will take me some time to complete.  All assessments will be done by September 19th.

Math

The Habits of a Mathematician will be explored as students re-engage with the following skills:

  • Counting and cardinality
  • Place value of the ones and tens place
  • Adding and subtracting within 10 using pictorial models and number sentences
  • Representing numbers up to 10
  • Using a hundreds chart to identify numbers and numerical relationships within 20

Math Videos to watch and discuss at home

Science

We will follow safety rules during experiments in the classroom and outside.  We will identify, describe, and demonstrate safe practices during classroom inverstigations.

Social Studies

We will talk about good citizenship and rules in the home, school, and community.

Great Information To Know For The Year
  • Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar.  If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment.  Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-) If the day is colored green or does not have any color (they often forget to color it) then it was a great day for them!
  • Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email.  Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

1A Mrs. Vincenzo (language arts teacher)   lvincenzo@coppellisd.com

1B Mrs. Brown (science and social studies teacher)   ebrown@coppellisd.com

*Mrs. Brown will not. have access to email while she is on maternity leave.  Please contact her sub or one of the other first grade teachers.

School Lunches
Beginning on OCTOBER 3rd,  immediate families will be able to eat lunch with their child at school on Fridays.

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.  If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.

Dismissal

If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher.  Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent.  Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message.  If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.

Absences

Attendance is taken at 10:00 daily. If your child is absent you will need to fill out the following form: CLICK HERE.  This form must be filled out each time your child is absent.

Birthday Treats

We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.  If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients.  Please send the treats to our school nurse.  She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class.  These treats will be eaten at school.  Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning.  Also, please do not send goodie bags to pass out. Birthday invitations are only able to be passed out at school by the teacher if the entire class is invited.  Teachers will also not be able to forward digital invitations as  school e-mails are only allowed to be used for school business.

Volunteering

If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check.  The sooner the better!  You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year.  You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.

Photos From The Week

Each week we will include pictures of our wonderful first graders from different activities throughout the week.  This is a great way to see your child in action! If you selected "ALL" in the photo disclosure, your child's picture can be featured in this section.  If you chose "printed publications only" we will not be able to include pictures of your child.  If you would like to change your child's photo disclosure to "ALL", please email your teacher and let her know that you would like to change your photo disclosure to "all". (Mrs. Brown's class can email Mrs. Vincenzo or the front office).  It's so much fun to see pics of your child from our week! We hope that everyone will allow us to showcase your sweet child's pictures each week.
