Language Arts
Reading - We are using different decoding strategies based on what we know about letters and sounds while we use stamina to increase our reading skills! We will also start learning and reading our second group of sight words. You can find these words on the sight words chart that I gave out at conferences. This is the orange paper and we will be working on the words on GP2.
Writing - I am blown away by our narrative stories! We will continue to write about these small moments of time using transition words to help tell our stories in sequential order.
Phonics - Next week we will concentrate on the long /i/ sound that is made by adding silent /e/ to the end of a word. We will continue to work on blends (two consonants that make two sounds) as well as changing beginning and ending sounds to create new words.
Math
We will order whole numbers up to 120 using place value and open number lines. We will also continue to decompose numbers in more than one way up to 120.
For example:

120 = 1 hundred, 2 tens, and 0 ones
-
120 = 12 tens
-
120 = 11 tens and 10 ones
-
120 = 10 tens and 20 ones
120 = 120 ones
so many different ways...
This helps learners understand that numbers can be represented in multiple ways using place value.
Ways to Help Your Mathematician at Home
One More, One Less:
Choose a number and ask your child to tell you what number is one more and one less. Try this with a variety of numbers to build fluency and number sense.Ten More, Ten Less:
Write a number (for example, 47) and have your child figure out what number is ten more (57) and ten less (37). Use a 120 chart or open number line to help them visualize the pattern.

Compare Numbers:
Write two numbers (for example, 87 and 79) and ask your child which is greater and which is less. Encourage them to explain their thinking using words and symbols. You can even make it a game—take turns being the “teacher” and let your child quiz you! -
Count to 120:
Practice counting forward and backward from any number up to 120. -
Skip Counting:
Skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s up to 120. -
Use Base Ten Blocks:
Draw or build base ten blocks to represent numbers up to 120. -
Expanded and Standard Form:
Practice writing numbers in both expanded form (100 + 20 + 3) and standard form (123). -
Even and Odd Numbers:
Play games that sort numbers into even and odd. -
Show Numbers in Different Ways:
Ask your child to represent numbers in multiple forms — expanded form, word form, base ten blocks, and base ten words.
We will compare the properties of puddles, ponds, streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans, including color, clarity, size, shape, and whether it is freshwater or saltwater
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-) If the day is colored green or does not have any color (they often forget to color it) then it was a great day for them!
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
- Attendance is taken at 10:00 each day. Please try to arrange appointments around this time so that your child can be present when attendance is taken.

Immediate families will be able to eat lunch with their child at school on Fridays for the remainder of the year
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Absences
Attendance is taken at 10:00 daily. If your child is absent you will need to fill out the following form: CLICK HERE Please make sure you fill out this form each time your child is absent. If no form is filled out, your child's absence will be listed as "unexcused".
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria. If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. They need to be nut free. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be eaten at school. Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning. Also, please do not send goodie bags to pass out. Birthday invitations are only able to be passed out at school by the teacher if the entire class is invited. Teachers will also not be able to forward digital invitations as school e-mails are only allowed to be used for school business.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
